Welcome to Week 1 of the 2007/08 NFL Season. Week 1 is always one of the toughest weeks to pick for a number of reasons; the huge turnover in team rosters and the fact that our software must use last season’s statistics as a basis for calculating its spread. In the current NFL a team can go from very bad to very good in one off-season. Witness last year’s Saints who were a much improved team over the year before.
But we’ve had many successes in Week 1 over the years hitting 11-4 against the spread three times since 1997 and an average of almost 10 wins straight up. Last year we went 4-12 in the first week against the spread, a terrible record but many great weeks followed.
Check back here every week after 12 midnight on Thursday evening for special insights into The Gridiron Genie Team Rankings as well as commentary on some of the trends we’re seeing.
