Week 2

Welcome back everyone. Week 1 wasn’t a bad first week for the Gridiron Genie as our software went 8-8 against the spread and a stellar 13-3 straight up. Still, there are some things the software can’t account for in Week’s 1 and 2 of the season as it uses statistics from the previous season to calculate its version of the spread. For instance, it has no way of knowing that Michael Vick is not playing and therefore, Atlanta is a much different team than they were last year. So keep an eye out in the first two weeks for teams that may have been very good last season but due to injuries, free agency and now, even legal issues, may have lost key players.

Week 2 has a few interesting games such as the New Orleans game against Tampa. New Orleans looked absolutely horrible last week against Indianapolis and it remains to be seen if they are any closer to becoming Super Bowl contenders, something they were beginning to resemble late last year. New England against San Diego is a game we’d rather see later in the season but still, it should be a good one and interesting to see how both those teams are looking. San Diego beat the Bears pretty convincingly last week but LT was held to the least amount of rushing yards in for him in years.

As usual, our famous Team Rankings won’t be available until Week 3 as it takes 2 weeks of play for there to be enough statistical data to use to compile them. The good news is that these Team Rankings get better as the season goes on.

Check back here every week after noon on Friday for special insights into The Gridiron Genie Team Rankings as well as commentary on some of the trends we’re seeing.
Thanks for trying the Gridiron Genie and Good Luck this weekend!
