Week 3

Wow, what a week!. Who would have thought that San Diego would get clobbered like that by the Pats, especially after how dominant they were last year. And who would have thought New Orleans, who we thought were one of the best NFC teams last year, would be 0-2.

Week 2 turned out ok for The Gridiron Genie as our software went 9-7 against the spread and a stellar 10-63 straight up keeping in mind that there are some things the software can’t account for in Week’s 1 and 2 of the season as it uses statistics from the previous season to calculate its version of the spread. For instance, it has no way of knowing that Michael Vick is not playing and therefore, Atlanta is a much different team than they were last year. So keep an eye out in the first two weeks for teams that may have been very good last season but due to injuries, free agency and now, even legal issues, may have lost key players. Now it gets interesting as the software will be able to use actual stats from this season’s games to measure how good (or bad) any given team may be.

Week 3 has a few interesting games such as the Green Bay at home against San Diego. Is Green Bay as good as their record so far? Is San Diego better than they looked last week, are they team from last year? The Genie is picking GB in this one so we’ll have to wait and see. Similarily, New Orleans has looked terrible and now faces what looks to be a strong Tennessee team this Monday night with the genie picking Tennessee to win.

Our famous Team Rankings are now available, check out some of the surprises in there although we caution, with only two games under everyone’s belt, these rankings don’t mean much at this point. The good news is that these Team Rankings get better as the season goes on.

Check back here every week after noon on Friday for special insights into The Gridiron Genie Team Rankings as well as commentary on some of the trends we’re seeing.

Thanks for trying the Gridiron Genie and Good Luck this weekend!
